International Association of Ottoman Social and Economic History
IAOSEH (International Association of Ottoman Social and Economic History) has been periodically organizing “International Congress of Social and Economic History of Turkey”, which was first held at Hacettepe University in Ankara in 1977. Also a member of International Union of Oriental and African Studies (IUOAS), IAOSEH drafted its own statutes in 1998 and accepted these unanimously during the 8th Congress held in Bursa in the same year. In 2008 the name of the congress was changed to “International Congress of Ottoman Social and Economic History” (ICOSEH). The International Congress, organized by the IAOSEH has convened 13 times in different countries and cities since 1977: Ankara (1977), Strasbourg (1980), Princeton (1983), Munich (1986), Istanbul (1989), Aix-EnProvence (1992), Heidelberg (1995), Bursa (1998), Dubrovnik (2001), Venice (2005), Ankara (2008), Retz (2011), Alcalá de Henares (2013). The 14th Congress (2017) will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria.
The main objective of the International Congress of Ottoman Social and Economic History organised by IAOSEH is to provide a scientific platform for the international community of Ottoman historians to exchange the results of current research and discuss the historiography, contributing to professional collaboration and solidarity in the field of Ottoman studies.
